Privacy Policy

This policy describes information collected during a visit, the reasons it may be processed, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Newport News Criminal History, you acknowledge these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered into a search box is transmitted to the outside provider that operates the tool. That provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep a separate site log of the terms typed into those fields.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to review and answer it. It remains within the operating team unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.

Data We Gather Automatically

Loading a page can create routine technical records about the visit, including:

  • Page-view dates, times, and duration
  • Browser name and version
  • Device category and operating system
  • Pages viewed during the visit
  • Referring website, when supplied
  • The device's assigned IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small device files used to understand traffic patterns, such as popular pages and common exit points. Analytics providers may combine those measurements into aggregate reports. A browser can reject or remove cookies, although doing so may change how some functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Route a search request to the selected outside service
  • Maintain performance and site availability
  • Diagnose faults and correct technical problems
  • Measure which resources visitors use
  • Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Newport News Criminal History does not host, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its published material identifies access routes at NNPD, the Sheriff's Office, local court clerks, Virginia State Police CARE and CCRE, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Visitor information is not compiled into consumer reports, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their own privacy notices govern the information submitted there, including retention and sharing choices that we do not control. Review the applicable provider terms before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Newport News offices, Virginia courts, state agencies, legal resources, or private search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's policy controls. Its terms should be checked before personal information is provided.

Advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their processing is outside our direct control.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal information is not sold by this site. It may be disclosed to:

  • Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
  • Search partners processing a submitted query
  • Advertising networks serving content on the pages
  • A government or law-enforcement body acting under valid legal process

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security practices are used for information under our control. No internet service can guarantee perfect protection, however, so unauthorized access or loss cannot be ruled out.

Users Under 18

The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Information identified as having been supplied by a minor may be requested for deletion.

Your Data Rights

Rights vary by residence and applicable law. Virginia's Freedom of Information Act governs public-body records, while Va. Code § 19.2-389 limits dissemination of state criminal-history information. Neither turns this private site's visitor logs into a government criminal record. Subject to the law that applies, a visitor may:

  • Request access to information associated with them
  • Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
  • Seek deletion where the law permits it
  • Object to eligible forms of processing

Updates to This Policy

A revised policy becomes available on this page, along with a changed effective date. Continued use after publication is governed by the updated version.
